My Current Skin Care Favorites

Posted in Beauty, Favorites

Hello bumble bees! Happy fall! Here in Germany, it’s definitely starting to cool down. The leaves are falling, the sky is cloudy, and my skin is drier than the Sahara Desert!

I have very very very sensitive, dry skin. Finding skin care products that work for me is a struggle. I seem to break out from almost everything that touches my face! So when I find a product that works for me, I get very excited and just have to share.

Here are my current skin care favorites. If you’d like to find out specifics of each product and how I use them, please keep reading!

img_0076First up, I’d like to talk about my holy grail moisturizer, the Trader Joe’s Nourish Oil-Free Antioxidant Facial Moisturizer. This baby is a Godsend. My best friend recommended it to me after I tried just about every other lotion known to man. This is my third bottle, and it does such a great job of moisturizing my face prior to makeup application without breaking me out. It’s not super heavy and doesn’t get rid of my eczema patches, but it keeps me from looking like I have lizard skin throughout the day. it absorbs into the skin very quickly and isn’t greasy at all. There’s no scent to it, and it’s cruelty-free.  I definitely recommend you give it a shot if you have sensitive skin, or just want something that works well under any type of foundation.

My eyelids, like the rest of my reptilian body, get very dry. This makes it hard to apply primers and blend out my eyeshadows. To combat this, I use the Tarte Maracuja C-brighter Eye Treatment. This product is a rich eye cream infused with the same Maracuja fruit as their infamous beauty oil. I don’t find that this necessarily makes a noticeable long-term difference in the state of my dark circles and fine lines, but it feels very nice and almost cooling when applied, and does seem to brighten the area a bit. I have celiac disease and try to avoid any type of gluten in all of my products, so the fact that Tarte is certified gluten free is also a plus in my book. This also works well under the eyes under concealer, but I prefer to use the next cream I’m going to discuss for that area.

The other eye cream I’m currently obsessed with is 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream. This cream smells amazing, almost like cinnamon doughnuts! I’ve noticed a bit of a difference in the look of my dark circles, and even some of my fine lines the last two months I’ve been using this. It’s very creamy and does reduce any puffiness I have. I apply it before my makeup and it plays nice with my concealer. I got this in my Ipsy bag some months ago, and will definitely be buying it once I run out.

I’ve never been one for face masks (besides sheet masks… My true loves!), but the RE:P Bio Fresh Mask With Calming Herbs has changed that for me! This is a Korean skin care brand that uses the highest quality natural ingredients. I’ve been using this two-three times a week for the last month and my skin has never felt this soft. The smell is pretty strong, as it is made of mostly herbs, but I don’t mind it too much. It exfoliates my skin, as well as calms any redness or inflammation I have. I received in in my Birchbox several months ago regret not using it sooner! and tossed it to the side, which I now regret not trying it sooner! I’m obsessed with it, and really wish it wasn’t so pricey. But you do get a ton of product in the full-size tub! I’ll, of course, splurge since this product is so amazing, but I understand not everyone can afford such a product. But considering most masks break me out, I just don’t think I can part with this one!

Last but not least, my favorite cleanser. As I’ve said a million times, my skin is extra sensitive. At the end of the night after wearing a full face of makeup, most cleansers cause even more irritation and itchy rashes. My saving grace is the Simple Cleansing Micellar Water. Micellar waters are very popular, though I’ll admit this is the only one I’ve tried. It removes all my eye makeup and leaves my skin feeling super soft and clean. I love that I can use this on round cotton pads and avoid rinsing my face with water and drying it out more. This really does seem to hydrate my skin and I just can’t rave enough about it as a cleanser alternative. This is my fourth bottle and I don’t plan to ever stop buying it. Bonus tip: Their makeup wipes paired with this make for perfectly clean, makeup free skin at the end of the night!
